BLOGMAS #13: BEST GIFT EVER RECEIVED

I really tried to not to go sappy and emotional on this one, but the more I thought about the best gifts I've received over the years, the harder it was to remember any of the tangible things I've been given, or even if the gifts had come at Christmas or on birthdays. Inevitably, my mind returned to the incredible community I have around me. So, I'm succumbing to my softer side and accepting that the best gift I've ever received is my inner circle, those wonderful friends and family who make every Christmas season so much more than a blur of wrapping paper and holiday drinks.

At the center, of course, are these weirdos, who came together last Christmas with awkward smiles and plenty of joy:

Not pictured is this goober, who was still incubating in mama's belly last Christmas:

Speaking of, isn't she grand? (Ignore the last vespers of my hair.)

All that beauty and laughter and utter nonsense, and I haven't even cracked the surface. I won't dare devolve into a list of my most favorite people, but suffice to say that I am (and have been) surrounded by people who would rise up at a moment's notice: friends who rally time and again to bring me back from the edge, who remind me in the hardest moments that annihilation exposes the parts of me that are indestructible; family who refuse to let me fall or wallow, who recognize when I need space to heal and when I need a kick in the pants.

Tomorrow: a Christmas wish.
