BLOGMAS #18: DESCRIBE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE

I'll call this The Tale of Three Trees because we've got three very different trees marking the holiday season this year.

Upstairs in the playroom, we have a tabletop tree that's prelit with multi-colored lights. We let the kids decorate the tree, which really means that certain areas are ornament-heavy and others are quite bare. To make matters more interesting, Grayson is just tall enough to give us hell and we've had to clear the bottom row of the tree entirely. The ornaments themselves are all from Target, our favorite holiday shopping spot, with a color palette of blues and purples. My favorite ornament is the hot air balloon, which has a wonderful pop and reminds me of my best friend's artwork.

Downstairs, we have a fake fir prelit with white lights that stands about seven feet tall. Due to our resident terror, there are no presents under the tree (he's already decided that ripping paper of any kind is great fun). Like the playroom tree, we let the kids decorate our main tree. Of course, Mallerie had to go back and balance the ornaments a bit. Yesterday, she added gold ribbon that cascades down and gives the tree an extra layer of texture.

Last, but perhaps most importantly, we have a real tree on our front porch. While tree itself is only three feet tall and not decorated in the slightest, it does mark the first real tree that Mallerie has ever owned. We had great fun going through the trees at a pop-up nursery with the littles before picking the perfect tiny fir to stand by the door. Next year, our goal is to go big with a 7-8 foot real tree in the living room!

Side note: I also got a rad fiber optic tree powered by USB for my classroom that really kept me in the holiday spirit!
